The Revival of the Lean-To Conservatory

Trends come and go in the world of home improvements.

One of those that had almost disappeared is what was called a ‘lean-to’ conservatory. It was often viewed as a basic design, as its construction was simpler than other shapes – and then often its roof was polycarbonate, giving it an inexpensive appearance.

But advances in design and technology have brought the ‘lean-to’ back to life. With a solid tiled roof and bifold or sliding patio doors, it now looks like an extension, rather than an add-on. The advances in insulation and glass also make this type of conservatory a great choice if you want to use your extension year-round. Add a simple heater, and you’ll have endless cosy nights in throughout the colder winter months.

A lean-to is also great for maximising available space, due to the clean lines. They are ideal for creating that extra living space that we all crave – for dining, for relaxing or for working from home.

Swapping your old lean-to roof - a case study

Mr and Mrs Webster had an old wooden framed conservatory that had started to degrade and had seen better days. They had tried a number of other companies for quotes, but all suggested knocking it down and starting again. SolarFrame however, worked with the existing structure and replaced the roof and windows.

It gave the whole conservatory a new lease of life, and the couple were delighted with the end result. So much so that they are now using it through all the seasons as a dining and TV room; a true extension to their beautiful home.
