Spring is knocking at our doors!

Who would have thought back in March last year that we’d still be lockdown? It’s tough going for all of us but hopefully we’re on the home run now and Spring is knocking at our doors.

That means we only have one week left in our Winter Sale. With up to 50% off until the 28th February, please contact us soon.

We’ve been able to keep taking your calls throughout this period and we’ve been listening to your plans for home improvements! Obviously, all that time your spending at home had caused your imaginations to run wild. You either want to improve your existing spaces or create new ones. Here are the top eight trends that we keep hearing about.

And right at the end we have a competition! Good luck and happy reading.

1. Granny chic.

As we’ve spent so much time looking out of own windows, we’ve become wistful and nostalgic. Harking back to the ‘good old days’ and yearning for comfort and feelings of homeliness.

This has become a trend for 2021, so you might start seeing floral wallpaper, wicker furniture and vintage touches in magazines – and your home!

We quite like the idea of granny chic – even our head of marketing has taken up embroidery!

2. Global influence.

Not sure on ‘granny chic’? Then another trend that might capture your imagination is by creating your own tropical paradise indoors.

As we’ve been so limited to travel abroad, it seems this year we’ll be bringing foreign climes into our houses instead – think safari, nature and warmth. As a result, plant and wildlife prints might make an appearance on your walls and earthy, natural textures in our home furnishings.

Just think when the kids are stampeding through the lounge like a herd of elephants, at least you can call it a global influence.

3. Entertainment spaces.

As we all know staying in is the new going out. It’s likely that this year will see us think more about family and how we live together under one roof.

Have you already planned a new purchase? Bigger TV, comfier sofa, big dining table? People are craving to emulate the atmosphere they miss from their favourite restaurant or cinema.

We know first hand that a lot of you have decided on a whole new room as we’ve been inundated with conservatory orders!

4.Friluftsliv.

This is a Danish concept, meaning ‘free air life’. We interpret this as wrapping up warm and being outside, regardless of the weather (who knew that wellies would become your new favourite fashion item!). Your own garden has become more important than ever, so expect to see yourself dusting off the BBQ and the chimenea and cozying up with your family throughout the winter.

Or you could consider a garden studio! Some of our customers have been super creative and have put in garden bars and offices just to get out the house.

5. Statement doors.

In the 2010s the trend was to have barn or UPVc white doors. Industry experts tell us that the trend for choosing a coloured composite door will gather traction.

Expect to see your street change, as people experiment with colour and styles.

One thing is for sure, a pop of colour right now will help your Amazon delivery driver remember where you live… And if you are bored – why not play with our ‘build a door’ tool and see what colour you would pick!

6. Colours of the year.

Seeing as we are all about colour this year, we thought we would share the colours of 2021 according to Pantone (industry geniuses).

Wait for it, drumroll please….

Grey and yellow! Apparently, they signify strength and hopefulness that is enduring and uplifting.

Well, we certainly don’t disagree there.

7. Growing your own.

Spending so much time at home has made a lot of us turn green fingered and that will show no sign of slowing down this year.

Even the smallest spaces can be put to good use, such as your window sills with gorgeous little pots of herbs, adding a lovely smell to your rooms.

Of course, there’s the health benefits too – our fave right now at Solarframe HQ is a handful of mint in some hot water. We’ve got plenty of window sills here to grow an allotment’s worth!

8. Home gyms.

Gyms have been closed for such a long time now that it’s probably going to come as no shock that a lot of people have decided not to go back at all in 2021 and create their own home gym instead.

We’ve gone Peloton crazy as a nation – but have you got the room for all your new equipment? Instead of converting the garage, why not refresh your old conservatory with a new solid roof or even buy a garden studio.

Now you have no excuse (well, we can think of many, but we’re trying to stay motivated – at least for a few weeks more!).

Bring a little green fingered happiness into your home by entering our competition.

We thought we’d tick off two of this year’s biggest home trends – growing your own and global influence!

This month’s prize is worth £44 and is called ‘The Pineapple Box’ from the Gluttonous Gardener. You can grow your very own pineapple indoors! Just think soon you could be slicing it up for your cocktails.

All you have to do is answer our simple question:

One of our favourite plants is called ‘Impatiens’ in Latin, but what is it’s more common name?

We’ll pick a winner on the 15th March 2021
